The Kitchen Witch, creating complete kitchens and bathrooms for vintage homes in Seattle, Washington. CRYSTAL BALL of project makeovers

What this 1909 Seattle bungalow radiated in charm it made up for in a kitchen best described as choppy, having little usable wall space. With nowhere to call home, a sizable and true professional Wolf range sat uninstalled in the middle of the kitchen. Not only was space limited, unusable, and in need of massive repair, but wishes loomed large and the range meant serious building code compliance.

Goals were formulated. First and foremost, the new kitchen would integrate with and enhance the home’s vintage style. It would be a true cook’s kitchen, provide daily dining space, and host numerous other family activities so often associated with a young, growing family.

To gain space, we permanently borrowed the sun porch and squeaked a minor few feet from an adjacent bathroom. Plumbing, wiring, lighting, and means of ventilation were replaced. A few doors and windows said their good-byes as other doors and windows, in keeping with the old, were added. Walls were removed and modified to pull the sun porch into the kitchen footprint. A small, concealed window was disclosed, restored, and replicated. A cozy eating nook, equipped with a copper tabletop, found residence. Not only did the range find a permanent home, it made friends with two new sinks and an island. The kitchen retained an appropriate period charm and the adjacent bathroom was rearranged to endorse a fabulous new design.
