If ever a home deserved a new kitchen, this 1915 Capitol Hill residence certainly qualified. An imposing interior wall closeted the room, hindered natural light, ignored a terrific view, and held back the kitchen from ever having a truly magnificent future. Appliances barely breathed, plumbing groaned, and the linoleum knew its life was over. Definitely not a pretty picture, but the ceiling was lofty and the structure sound.
Our primary goals were to release the room to the view’s natural light and create a kitchen that would easily host a large party. First, the imposing wall was removed and the entry hall beautifully modified, gaining a butler’s passage into the kitchen. A small set of stairs within the kitchen was eliminated to increase kitchen space and add a broom closet to the main stairwell landing. We now had the footprint for a fabulous kitchen.
